If you are are
asked by a friend or family member to photograph a wedding here is a
list of 17 tips that will help get you started..
1-Arrange to meet the couple at
least two to three weeks before the wedding.
2-Sit down with both of them
briefly and talk a bit about what photos they’ll want you to shoot.
3-Make a Wedding Photograph Checklist.
4-Get a list of desired poses from
the Bride.
5-Find out what they are wanting
to accomplish, how many shots they want, what key things they want to
be recorded.
6-It helps you to know exactly
what is expected. What kind of photographs are they looking for you to
take for them.
7-Make sure you know who the
important family members are - otherwise you will find unidentified
people in your photographs.
8-Pick up a wedding photography
book at the local bookstore and study the poses.
9- Look up lists of standard poses
on the web and incorporate it into the Bride's list
10-Make a list of "must-take"
wedding photography shots that captures those essential details.
11-Spend as much time as possible
preparing for, and practicing, before the wedding. Buy books that deal
with wedding photography. Take the book out and do practice photo
sessions.
12-Attend if you can the rehearsal
of the ceremony where you’ll gather a lot of great information about
possible positions to shoot from, the lighting, the order of the
ceremony etc.
13-Go to the church a couple of
days prior and shoot and write down the camera settings.
14-Get a friend to help you
setting up equipment and locating people you need in a photograph as
well.
15-Check and see if you are
allowed to use flash, and if so, use it sparingly.
16-Watch for mirrors and glass
windows that can reflect your cameras flash, as these will definitely
spoil your picture.
17-Relax and have fun. The more
fun you have as the photographer the more relaxed those you are
photographing will be.
